1% counts

I haven't blogged in almost a year! Having Tejay has been one of the greatest seasons of happiness and also the busiest! Between c-section recovery, figuring out parental basics, learning how to become a working mom, and having 12 visits with family and friends in town on top of a few trips of our own, I'm just now getting back into the swing of things!

If you know me well you know I am super sensitive to caffeine. As a rule, I don't drink caffeine after 2 or it's sure to keep me up!! Two nights ago I got the idea for this post when I was paying the price of having hot chocolate in the early eve. And, even though the package said 99% caffeine free that 1% still got me! urgh !!

Wide-awake I started thinking about the 1% items in life, those things we disregard because afterall "it doesn't cost that much" or I just need "a few more minutes" etc. In a nutshell, I was thinking about the areas stolen from our life -- time wasters and unimportant things that just have no value. As a working mom I've become much more aware of the 1%. Most nights I have a good amount of time with Tejay before he's off to bed but every once in a while I come home late because I was caught in traffic or some other reason. When I walk in the door and see the arms on the clock I sadly realize that tonight is a "30 minute night". During those times, which are truly not that often, I'm always tempted to keep him up later and hold him while he's sleeping but more often than not little man would rather be in his own bed. Unfortunately, the opportunity to snuggle to sleep dwindles away as he gets older...

I've always known time passes so quickly but having a child has made me realize that more since I see his growth visually. In fact, I'm certain I wouldn't even be blogging right now if Tejay wasn't asleep. So my Valentine reminder is to cherish the ones you love and hold them dear. Life is too precious to disregard even the shortest opportunity of time you have with someone. To my two Valentine's, I love you dearly!!!!
